THE POTOMAC VALLEY DRESSAGE ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THE
Results of the 2008 ANNUAL BENEFIT RIDE FOR LIFE HORSE SHOW
COLUMBIA, MD, September 4, 2008: The Potomac Valley Dressage Association Ride for Life™ non-profit organization has announced that they have raised over $80,000 in June of 2008 to benefit the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Center. Founded in 2004, the PVDA Ride for Life has donated to date over $161,000 towards this cause. In the words of the Ride for Life founder, Patricia Artimovich:
“I cannot express how moving it was for me to see my dreams for the Ride for Life realized this year. The Ride’s financial success was only rivaled by the quality of the event. While my dreams for the Ride for Life sometimes seemed impossible to achieve in the first years… I always knew somehow that this is what this event could become. The success of this worthwhile endeavor is due entirely to the strength and support of the PVDA’s members and the generosity of the equestrian and surrounding communities.”
Funds donated to the Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Center (JHBCC) focus on issues survivors deal with long-term after their treatments are completed. Johns Hopkins and PVDA want to make a difference for people dealing with breast cancer – not just while they are experiencing the diagnosis and treatment, but well beyond, to keep survivors healthy with a good quality of life going forward for them and those who they love.
The PVDA Ride for Life™ in 2008 was thrilled to partner with our sponsors including Dover Saddlery, Patuxent Nursery, Homeport Farms, Chesapeake Dressage Institute, Lee Industries and several media partners including Dressage Today, the United States Dressage Federation, DressageClinic.com and Dressage Daily for this very special event. The PVDA Ride for LifeTM Dressage Show is both a benefit for breast cancer research and a two-day USDF-licensed dressage show with classes from Training Level to Grand Prix. The Ride for Life also includes a special Saturday evening Dancing Horse Challenge.
The PVDA Ride for Life™ in 2008 also included a special Saturday evening Dancing Horse challenge that was judged by special guest, Nicole Uphoff-Selke, the famous German dressage Olympic Gold Medalist. In addition to Nicole Uphoff-Selke, there were a number of dressage exhibitions by a number of well-known and talented FEI riders including Christopher Hickey, the 2007 Pan Am Games Gold Medalist; and Dr. Cesar Parra, a former Olympic and Pan Am Games participant. The Dancing Horse challenge was won by Jane Hannigan and her partner, Maksyimillian in a spell binding performance which left our audience asking for more.
Achieving this level of excellence takes commitment, hard work, and dedication – all of which are the foundations of success. We sincerely thank all of the participants, volunteers, sponsors and donors who made this year a landmark success and look forward toward 2009 for an even better event.
